MATCH REPORT: South West & Wales edge out Midlands in Supertrax Women’s League

Sunday saw the first round of the new Supertrax Women’s League at a very wet and windy Exeter Circuit.

The day kicked off with the three team event, under a new format, which delivered some fantastic racing. It was always close, but with the South West and Wales just edging away from the Midlands at the end of the match to take the win.

The individuals equally saw some fantastic racing from both the Elite and Intermediate categories. Legs were tired from the first match, but nevertheless, they gave a good show on the damp and heavy track.

Racing was close right across the board with a few run-offs to get into the final positions. The finals were especially top drawer from both categories, taking her maiden victory in the Intermediate A final was young Maddie Saunders from Poole.

In the Elite final, Saunders’ team mate, Macie Schmidt underlined her winning potential taking the victory. Taking the inside gate against nearest rival Lauren Hookway, Schmidt held firm in a fast race, with Hookway trying on several occasions to make the pass but could not pull it off, especially with Lucy Whitehead putting pressure on from behind.

Overall, despite the weather, round one was a great success. A very healthy 25 competitors battled it out and everybody went away looking forward to the next round, which takes place in Ipswich on 20 May.
