MATCH REPORT: Numbers boost in Manchester League Round 4

Astley and Tyldesley hosted Round 4 of the Manchester League Grand Prix series, on a very hot summer solstice evening at Gin Pit on Wednesday. There was the biggest turn out of the series so far, with 35 riders racing, including 21 from the home club.

A&T’s first year rider, Tom Morrissey, scored his first ever maximum in the U10s match, inflicting the only defeats on team mate Duncan Whalley and Bury’s Kaci Neath. A&T’s Emily Burgess raced to a convincing maximum score in the U13s event.

The U16 and U19 categories were combined, with A&T’s Reece Pollitt racing unbeaten. A&T’s Max Evans recovered from a head injury at Wednesfield on Saturday, to top score in the U16s event, losing only to Stockport’s Michael Preston in heat 4.

A&T took the win for the fourth successive round, with an all time record Manchester League Division 2 score of 78 points, with only one point dropped by the top 5 scorers to an opponent.

18 riders lined up for the Division 1 (senior) match, the highest of the series so far. Stockport’s Ben Higham raced to a 16 points maximum and inflicted the only defeat on team mate Jake Read in heat 19. Stockport narrowly edged out Astley & Tyldesley to take their third win of the series.
