RIP Daniel Thompson

Today on the 6th March, Cycle Speedway has lost yet another great name to grace it’s grids.

Daniel Thompson, 28, from the Murraylands club in South Australia, has grown up on two wheels with many of the riders of today. He was tragically killed whilst riding his bike with his daughter in Murray Bridge, his daughter escaped the accident with bumps and bruises.

After being rushed to hospital and spending time in intensive care, his family released a statement to confirm the tragic news that the popular rider had not made it.

Statement from the Thompson family

Daniel Thompson 28yrs and his daughter Emily Thompson 5yrs were the victims of an accident on Maurice Rd Murray Bridge Mon 5th March … Emily was treated at local hospital for minor injuries. Daniel was flown to Adelaide with critical life threatening injuries sadly those injuries were so severe he has passed away 6th March … we have lost a husband,daddy,son,brother,brother in law and grandchild we ask for some family privacy as we grieve as a family and help our 3 little girls come to terms with life without their daddy…we thank the people first on scene that assisted and cared for Daniel and Emily until emergency services arrived we thank the emergency services teams and the hospitals for their care and also to everyone sending msgs please understand we will all respond in due course R.I.P. Daniel taken from us far too young..Daniel has been a rider and valued member of our club and sport since we started in 1998

Daniel was best known for the excitement he brought to the tapes, which is where he got his nickname “Mr Excitement”. Daniel was a major part of Murraylands Cycle Speedway and a huge role model for the younger riders. Deepest condolences to friends and family of Daniel on such a tragic loss.
