MATCH REPORT: Northumbria Triangular tournament

On Sunday 23rd September Northumbria staged a triangular six a side tournament at Cramlington with select sides from Northumbria, Edinburgh and Hull taking part.

The Hull side were bolstered by the addition of former Hull Viking Frank Aufrett plus Shane Grey and Terry Kirkup from the home side. The opening stages saw Northumbria’s Gavin Parr in fine form, despite a long layoff, with partner Josh Herring also impressing while Hull’s Nathan Everett was also winning races along with team mates Shane Gray and Matt Eglen who is looking a good prospect in his first seasons racing. Edinburgh’s Jake Slight was the pick of their team but Marcin Czarchowski was having a day to forget with machine failures and falls.

After 12 heats Northumbria held a two point lead over Hull with Edinburgh seven points back, but Hull turned this into a two point lead with Edinburgh ten points adrift going into the final six heats of individual racing. The final heat was on a knife edge with Northumbria and Hull level on 68 points but Edinburgh’s Jake Slight raced off from the inside gate to finish on a high for the Scottish club while Jason Keith and Nathan Everett swapped places a number of times with Jason prevailing to take the win for the home side.

Thanks to Northumbria for staging such a friendly and entertaining match with all riders catered for in a unique formula.
