CLUB NEWS: Hawks suffer heavy defeat at Ipswich

HETHERSETT HAWKS / YELLOW BRICK MORTGAGES had a chastening experience at Whitton Sports Centre as a below strength side due to holidays and work commitments were beaten heavily by Ipswich who had no fewer than six riders unbeaten. Highlight of the day was the form of recent recruit McKenzie Loombe who is improving match by match. Experienced Glyn Morgan, Ben Loombe and David Adams did their best to crate some disruption but the home side were formidable.

The same eight riders had to pick themselves up for the Division 2 match which also saw them contending with heavy rain. It was a much closer affair. Ben Loombe dropped just one point and Paul Delaiche was named rider of the match. A special mention for 11-year-old George Larter-Dixon who was drafted into both teams and tried throughout his nine races.

There is little respite as Ipswich visit the Memorial Playing Field on Sunday (2 p.m.) followed by the visit of Hellingly at 3.30 in Division 2.

In the Norfolk Championships for older age groups held at Eaton Park Glyn Morgan finished third in the Veterans and Katie Adams runner-up in the Ladies.
