MATCH REPORT: Comets draw clear of Aces late on

Report by Graham Sutton

It wasn’t until the later stages of this South Coast derby that the Comets were able to draw clear of the Aces with the visiting riders 7 – 11 in fine form and the Poole opening pair conceding a 7-3 after a mix up which left Matt Mildon on the deck! It was 51 – 48 at the interval but 7 maximum heats after the break put clear daylight between the sides.

The Comets trio of Bristowe, Garnett and Smith along with reserve Nathan Goulden all returned unbeaten returns while Matt Mildon was untroubled after his tumble. Connor Tucker supplied a heat win for the Aces top 6 while Andy Collett and Rosie Tidball did likewise in the Junior/Vets races. There was a notable return to race action for the Comets by Alan Nation after a 15 year absence from racing – he picked up 2 race wins and he could soon be joined by brother Steve shortly…..after an even longer lay-off.
