MATCH REPORT: Everett maximum sees Hull to convincing win

Nathan Everett (North and Scotland region open champion) rode to a fine five ride maximum as Hull won round three of the Yorkshire League at Heckmondwike in convincing style. The final scores of Hull 64, Sheffield 51 and Heckmondwike 41 belies the closeness of the racing on the track, with plenty of passing from all the teams. The points were shared in heat one, with Niamh Morton going from first to last but Stars captain Laura Watson went from last to first. Nathan Everett won heat two to ensure a share of the spoils, David Cooper going off 15 metres after moving while under orders. The first break in shared scores came with a 7-3 for Sheffield duo of Luke Morton and Kielan Burton in heat 4. Hull took control of the match with back to back 7-3’s in heats five and six. Kielan beat Darren in heat seven as Sheffield secured a 6-4. Hull were set for a third successive 7 pointer in heat eight, only for Laura Watson to make a great passing move on Frank Auffret on the last corner. Scores at the end of 12 heats stood at Heckmondwike 32, Sheffield 39, Hull 49.
The final four races, with one member from each team, continued the vein of close racing. Heat 13 saw Niamh lead before being passed by both Frank and Thomas Kent. Heat 14 saw Terry Kirkup quick off the start from grid one, leading the first lap. David and Luke both pounced and passed on lap 2, David holding on for a second Hull victory. Laura broke Hull’s dominance by racing to victory in heat 15, keeping the ever pressing Hack Lister at bay. Heat 16 was the top scorers race, with Kielan making an electric start from grid two to lead Nathan and Darren round turn one. Nathan eventually went around the outside on turn three of the second lap, Kielan chasing hard kept Darren in third.

In the junior races it was Sheffield’s Oliver who won three of the four races against Elliot (Heckmondwike), who was making his racing debut.
