CLUB NEWS: A busy weekend for Hawks

HETHERSETT HAWKS / YELLOW BRICK MORTGAGES had a busy but successful weekend which climaxed with the crowning of a double East Anglian Champion. Three members contested the second national round of the British Youth & Junior Grand Prix at Eaton Park and all performed well. Luca El Labany produced two good passes on his way to sixth place in the Under-8s, in the Under-18s Paul Delaiche won the B Final to finish fifth while Charlie Lyth took third place in the A Final, a position he now holds in the series.

It was Charlie Lyth who stole the show at the East Anfglian Championships which were the first regional events to be staged at the recently re-opened Spixowrth track. He produced four immaculate rides to win the Ynder-16 title with a maximum and then stepped up to win a very competitive Under-19 event. Following a difficult third place in his penultimate ride he sped to the front in his last race and, with the promising youngster Noah Woodhouse holding out his main rival Adam Cooper, Charlie took the Under-19 crown as well.

There were also podium positions for Ben Loombe, who has done so much to put the Spixworth track back on the scene, and Glyn Morgan. Both lost race-offs for second place – Ben in the Seniors and Glyn in the Veterans after shedding a chain in a heat.

Three Hethersett riders are now in Poland to contest World Championships and represent Ireland in international matches – Leigh Cossey, Craig Norton and Harley Hamill.
