Saturday October 12th at Eaton Park Norwich was the venue for the final round of 8 in the South East Grand Prix series. The picture shows a group of youngsters who made the long trip from the south coast at Hellingly to take part in the event at Norwich Cycle Speedway club. It was somewhat of a milestone for the Lions as to have such an abundance riders available, as in many a season gone by it has been incredibly difficult to get them interested in the sport of cycle speedway.
The event itself consisted of several categories ranging from U/8’s, U/10’s, U/12’s through to senior and veteran level with most league clubs being represented. It has to be said that Hellingly were the most prolific club on the day with the red racing shirts in great abundance.Credit for this has to go to the Lions long time servant Ed Ridley and his wife Natalie for overseeing the very popular training sessions throughout the season along side the provision and maintance of most of the machinery the kids are riding.
The picture above shows that racing is not all about winning but taking part the key issue racing against opponents the same age and skill level. For most of the young Lions this is their first season of racing, so participation rather than being competitive was the order of the day. Congratulations to them
all for giving it a go and for making the long journey of over 300 miles road trip.
