OBITUARY: Derek Hilton

The Hull club have just heard of the sad passing of Derek Hilton on August 30th. Derek originally raced in the Derby area and was central in the re-emergence of cycle speedway in Hull in 1971. A meeting was held in the Hull Boulevard speedway car park from which the Humberside League was formed and thrived in the 1970’s. Derek managed the Anlaby Aces and the Tranby Diamonds before leaving the area to pursue his career as a journalist.

He returned to the club in the early 2000’s and was instrumental in the clubs improved facilities and performances in his position as club chairman and later as club president. Derek will be greatly missed by his many friends at the club and within the sport.

Everyone in Cycle Speedway and at 33/18 News offer their sincere condolences to Derek’s family and friends at this time
