CLUB NEWS: Birmingham’s season begins Sunday

Birmingham kick off their 2016 season with a tough meeting against the Wednesfield Aces in an Elite League exhibition fixture.

The Monarchs have been given permission to fulfil their Elite League fixtures by its governing body, however their league position will not count when scoring points.

This at least gives the Monarchs top riders a chance to race against the sports best, having previously been denied a chance to race.

Birmingham have recruited East Park riders Jamie Ball, Jamie Whetton and Luke Draisey for the Elite League fixtures in a bid to assist putting out a competitive team against their EL opponents.

This Sunday offers a mouth watering challenge against EL and Midland League reigning champions Wednesfield.

They went through the 2015 season unbeaten and look as strong as ever for the challenge ahead, having already taken a couple of wins early in the season.

They will include Birmingham born rider Paul Heard and 2015 Monarch rider Matt Smith.

The Monarchs will be lead by World number 2 Chris Timms and are hoping to include Great Barr rider Marcus Wadhams. Former World Under 19 World Champion Ricki Johnson starts his 2nd season as a Birmingham rider, whilst popular former Sandwell racer Scott Millward is hoping to have a big season having invested heavily with new equipment.

Great Barr rider Nathan Groves has been training hard also for the season challenges ahead.

The meeting gets underway at 2pm at the Perry Hall Playing Fields track, there will also be a combination match and a junior match in what will be a full afternoon of racing.

The club are starting their popular training sessions this Thursday (31st March) from 6pm. All levels and abilities welcome. Newcomers are more than welcome!
