WEEKEND PREVIEW: Cycle Speedway Cup and a few regional matches

The Cycle Speedway Cup takes place this weekend (Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th September) at Exeter. There will be 4 matches on Saturday, all of which will use the 4 team 24 heat formula. The first match at 12 noon on Saturday sees Birmingham take on Exeter, Ipswich and Newport in Match A whilst Match B at 1.30pm will see the holders Horspath in action at 1.30pm when they take on Great Blakenham, Kesgrave and Poole. Match C at 3.30pm will see the 1st & 4th placed teams in Match A taking on the 2nd & 3rd placed teams in Match B. Match D at 5pm will see the 2nd & 3rd placed teams from Match A take on the 1st & 4th placed teams from Match B.

The Match Points scoring system will be 1st = 4 pts, 2nd = 3 pts, 3rd = 2pts, 4th = 1 pt. The top 4 teams from the league table to progress to Sunday’s Semi-Finals. Teams 5th to 8th are eliminated. If there is a tie on Match Points for a qualifying place Race points will count but in event of a tie of a tie on both match points and race points a run-off will take place to determine a qualifying place.

The Semi-Finals and Final will take place on Sunday and the draws for these will take place after the completion of Match D. The Semi-Finals (at 11am and 12.30pm) and the Final (at 3pm) will be raced using the 2 team, 18 heat 6 rider + optional reserves formula

Also on Sunday what will be Round 5 of the Scottish League series takes place at Redbraes Park, Edinburgh whilst the latest Round of the Yorkshire League sees the riders head to Sheffield’s Cookson Park. There is also a Norfolk Derby in Division 2 of the South-East League as Hethersett take on Norwich
