MATCH REPORT: Comets aim for title.

With the hosts again minus Aaron Amith and Greg Gluchowski due to injuries in addition to the visitors rumoured to be without several of their squad due to a pre arranged social engagement both teams had the option to use younger club members in the fixture. However at the scheduled start time only three Great Blakenham riders were present due to others delayed in the heavy holiday traffic on the M3 / M27 motorway. When racing finally got underway it was with Comets asset Josh Nottle competing for the visitors but Josh Brooke and Lewis Foxley produced brilliant rides to keep the
scoreline to just three points in the Comets favour at the interval stage.
Although Will Bristowe and Ferose Langoo then took a well deserved 6-4 and increased the advantage Jonjo Slaughter with partner Josh Brooke combined to gain maximum points and close the gap to a single point.
However with Bristowe playing a real captains role and a six ride paid maximum and Kenzie Bennett, Leon Penketh and Ferose providing vital backing the hosts took the match by a healthy fourteen point margin.
But without doubt the “man of the match” was Matt Mildon who after a lengthy period of inactivity responded to a late call up and in turn produced a match winning performance. If the Comets can call on a full strength squad in their remaining National League fixtures the title is well within their grasp.
