MATCH REPORT: Coventry do the double in Challenge

Birmingham 84-96 Coventry (Challenge) – 23rd March 2014

Coventry confirmed the double over local rivals Birmingham at Perry Hall playing fields as they beat the Monarchs by 12 points in the clubs final pre-season challenge fixture.

Despite the absence of regular senior riders, including Mason Phillips and Shaun Reynolds, Coventry called upon juniors Charlie Barnett and Ollie Morris to take their place in the senior side – both of whom made their senior team debut.

Polish superstar Konrad Pietak was the pick of the Coventry squad scoring 18 points whilst Kyle Roberts also impressed totalling 17. Guest Kelvin Williams managed to score 14 points as did former British Junior Champion Dave Frith.

However one of the most impressive performances came from Charlie Barnett who, on senior debut, scored 12 points to the delight of senior team manager Lee Marsh. Daniel Drewett added 11 to the cause whilst Mark Roberts – father of young Kyle – did well scoring 8.

A big mention must also be given to Ollie Morris who scored 6 on his senior team debut. The Devlins Newsagents haven now finished pre season as their Midland League campaign begins three weeks today on April 13th against Birmingham.
