NEWS: Midland League finally agree on ML2 format

Midland club members met last night to finalise how Midland League Division 2 will run this season. After much deliberation, it was decided that the following will be the best way forward:

Midland League Division 1 – Over 14s

Midland League Division 2 – Over 14s

Midland Junior League – Under 14s

Midland Grand Prix – Racing split into age categories

The requirement under TLI for U14s and adults to not race each other was discussed at length, initially with a proposal of a new formula, so ML2 teams can have a mix of ages but without under 14 and over 14s meeting on the track. Reasons for this being that a 12 year old racing a 50 or 60 year old does nothing for either party, nor the spectators.

With such a varied selection of ages in ML2 teams, there were doubts of how effective this would be. So ML2 is now completely over 14s only and juniors will race in MJL, all on the same day.

The Midland Grand Prix is expected to run similar to the British Youth and Junior League, with the relevant age group categories, including Open and Veteran categories.

Hopefully this scenario will ensure more races remain competitive, which can only be good news for all involved.
