PREVIEW: Welsh Womens/U19 Open Championships

Newport Cycle Speedway Club are looking forward to staging their opening meeting of the season, with the annual Welsh Open Championships, which was the event that opened the clubs excellent facility exactly 10 years ago.

The days racing sees some of the sports top women racers go head to head, with “Devon Express” Lauren Hookway, Charlie Jane Herbert, Lauren Jacobs, Laura Watson and Michelle Whitehead, all pre match favourites. New Newport signing Dannielle Riley has been going well in training and could upset the form book.

The under 19s boys take to the track with current holder Charlie Rumbold looking for a Welsh double, but there are a few title contenders capable of lifting the trophy, including fellow Eagles, Fellgett and Hill. Other top under 19s include British under 16s champion Brandon Whetton, Adam Watson and local lad Jacob Soper.
