MATCH REPORT: Ruthless Eagles progress in KO Cup

Ipswich Eagles welcomed an under strength Coventry to Whitton raceway in the first round of the British Team Cup and recorded an emphatic victory, winning all the heats bar one.

The Eagles rested Josh Brooke and were without Aussie superstar Cody Chadwick, who is not allowed to ride due to it being a British only event, but that didn’t stop the Eagles, who put in a ruthless display with 4 of the 8 riders going unbeaten by an opponent.

Coventry’s Kyle Roberts took the only heat win for the away side and the rest of their young team battled away gamely. Although a defeat like this can really knock the confidence, there is similarities to the Eagles team of 5/6 years ago, young riders learning their craft and if they stick together and keep improving then there is no reason this Coventry team can’t be challenging for honours in a few years.

The Eagles now await the draw this week where they will be hoping to avoid one of the other favourites, knowing one more victory will see them reach the Finals weekend for the 2nd time in there history since being reformed.

The next action for the Eagles will be an away trip to Dorset, to take on Poole in the elite league where they will be hoping to keep their title chances on track with another away victory.
