CLUB NEWS: Stoke make senior return at British Indoor Finals

Cycle Speedway has received a pre-Christmas boost with the news that Stoke Cycle Speedway team are to ride in their first senior event for four years.

A team from Stoke have been cleared to enter the 2016 British Indoor Finals at Coventry`s Sports Connexion on 7th and 8th January 2017. Stoke supremo Avon Allcock is finalizing details after British Cycling`s Cycle Speedway Commission approved several transfers back into the Stoke club last Friday afternoon.

The news suggests that the Stoke revival is gathering pace. Stoke withdrew from the Midland League in 2012. Following a Public Meeting to revive activity in the Potteries, racing returned to Stoke in April this year with the opening round of the Eurovets GP.

A team of local enthusiasts, led by the hard-working Simon Baltkauls, have completely reinstated both existing tracks in Stoke, including the superb facility at Etruria Park, which was constructed in 2011.

Avon Allcock said: “We are delighted to have reached another stage of our two-year plan to revive the Stoke club. We would like to thank the Cycle Speedway Commission for allowing the transfers and we look forward to seeing new and old friends alike at the British Indoor Finals in Coventry”.
