CLUB NEWS: Hawks stage first National event for 4 years

HETHERSETT HAWKS / YELLOW BRICK MORTGAGES successfully staged their first national event for four years when the South-East & Eastern Region took on the North & Scotland at the Memorial Playing Field. The junior match was a bit disappointing with the visitors a rider down but the remaining five did put up a spirited effort. Hethersett’s Charlie Lyth made his regional debut with seven points in his three rides. Score – South-East & Eastern 100 North & Scotland 74.

The Senior match was much more competitive with former British Champions in the line-up for the Northerners. The home side built up an early lead only for this to be reduced to three points in heat 8 following an exclusion. After the interval the home team again pulled away with Matt Hill leading the way and two late heat wins for the visitors came too late. Score – South-East & Eastern 106 North & Scotland 92.

Daniel Longlands made the long trip to Newport to contest the Welsh Junior Open. He finished 11th but the experience will be a good part of his development.

This Saturday some riders will be at East London for a South-East Grand Prix while on Sunday the Hawks’ “B” team entertain Kesgrave at 2 p.m.
