CLUB NEWS: Hamill struggles at Somersham Open

HETHERSETT HAWKS / YELLOW BRICK MORTGAGES were represented at the Somersham Open in Suffolk by Harley Hamill. The field for two semi-finals was of top quality containing past and present British Champions and top local riders. Harley struggled to make his mark on the tight circuit and scored six points. He fared better in the Consolation Final finishing 7th with 13 points.

The Hawks will hold their first team match at the Memorial Playing Field since 2019 when they stage the final leg of the Norfolk League on Sunday 20th June. The three-team Senior match starts at 1 p.m. followed by a Youth match against Norwich Stars at 3 p.m.

Final plans are being made for the Club’s big fund-raising event over the weekend 26th / 27th June. The 24-hour marathon at the track – called Pedal 2 Paris – is for all the community to come down on their bikes and help the Club complete the equivalent of the 381 miles to Paris to coincide with the Tour de France.

Several club members have set themselves challenges and are seeking sponsorship and there will be various opportunities to donate through games and a cake stall throughout the 24 hours which starts at 3 p.m. on the Saturday. Full details are on the club website
www.hethersetthawks.co.uk or on their social media outlets.

Money raised over the weekend will go towards the Club’s proposed trackside developments – two new customised containers housing kitchen, toilet and officials facilities plus a workshop for the popular Wonky Wheels Community Bicycle Workshop.
