ICSF WORLDS: Team GB v Poland test match at Poole

Breaking News from the Team GB camp is that a GB v Poland test match is being lined up to follow the World Team Cup qualifying round at Poole (involving Australia, Ireland, Scotland and Wales) on Thursday July 30th.

Despite a busy schedule with two full weekends of ICSF events and a midweek Ashes Test Series, the GB management team has looked into accommodating requests from Polish riders to provide them with additional racing.

Poland had originally hoped to race Australia, but the Aussies have a full schedule whilst the opportunity for the Eastern Europeans to race Team GB at Poole has now arisen due to the Junior World Cup qualifier being cancelled – (this following the absence of Junior World Cup teams being entered from Ireland and Scotland).

Poole CSC figurehead Graham Sutton was more than happy to accept this opportunity, although conscious that the match will add to the workload of his clubs enthusiastic bunch of volunteers. The event will add spice and entertainment to the South Coast welcome evening for overseas visitors.

Team GB manager Dave Murphy has been influential in making this match possible and will relish the opportunity to test some riders against the fast gating Poles in preparation for the Federation Cup which will be staged at East Park on August 8th.

However, Murphy did acknowledge one point which may be raised following this news, when he told 33/18 News, “I’m aware that this is yet another GB Test Match in the South of England and, whilst logistics dictated on this occasion, I am keen to see future GB matches being staged in the North and Eastern Regions (plus some more in the Midlands), so this must be a priority for the next couple of years”.
