CLUB NEWS: Norwich Stars-The Month of August so far

Norwich riders have seen plenty of action so far in August. The first action was the opening Norfolk Go-Ride and Grand Prix at Spixworth on Wednesday 4th where Connor Jarrett and Zackery Eastwood’ recorded a 1-2 in the Under 10’s A Final. The same 2 riders represented Norwich in the Under 13’s event with Connor winning the A Final and Zackery finishing 4th. The Senior event saw Jamie Medler finish 4th in the A Final with Tom Blackmore 4th in the B Final

Saturday 7th saw the 3rd round of the EuroVets take place at Glasgow where Paddy Wenn scored 19 points in the qualifying heats for the Over 50’s, losing only to Dave Frith from Leicester who went on to win the A Final with Paddy 2nd. this leaves Paddy 3rd overall in the Over 50’s category going into the next round at Heckmondwike on Saturday September 4th

It was back to Spixworth for round 2 of the Norfolk Go-Ride and Grand Prix series on Wednesday 11thand the Under 10’s saw Connor and Zackery repeat their results from the opening round in the Under 10’s event, Connor winning the A Final with Zackery 2nd. The same 2 riders also rode in the Under 13’s event with Connor winning and Zackery 3rd. The Senior event saw Paddy Wenn, Jamie & Tom finish 2nd, 3rd & 4th respectively in the A Final

Eaton Park was the venue for Round 3 of the Norfolk Go-Ride & Grand Prix series on Wednesday 18th and this saw Zackery win the Under 10’s A Final with Kenny Culling 3rd and Stanley Budds winning the B Final. Connor made it 3 wins from 3 in the Under 13’s event with Tabby Nierop finishing 4th. The Senior event saw Jamie finish 2nd in the A Final with Tom 4th and Rory Freeman 2nd in the B Final.

The Ade Gale Veterans Laurels took place at Poole on Saturday 21st and this saw Steve Copping representing Norwich where he lined up in the 1st of 2 10-rider semi-finals (which used the 12 heat BYJL formula) which were both raced at the same time with 3 heats from the 1st semi followed by 3 heats from the 2nd semi and so on. Steve scored 9 points in his semi which was enough to get him into the final where he scored 7 points

The following day saw Norwich travel to Ipswich for matches in the South-East League as well as the Youth League. The main League match saw Norwich on the wrong end of a 106-54 scoreline. The scorers were Lee Grange 10, Shaun 9, Jamie 8, Tom 8, Rory 6, Gary Colby 4, Will 4, Connor 3 and Zackery 2. the Youth League match followed and despite being a rider short Norwich managed to win by 65 points to 51. Connor top scored with 19 points with Will scoring 14, Shaun 13, Zackery 9 and Luke Sutherland 9

Wednesday 25th saw the 4th round of the Norfolk Go-Ride & Grand Prix series staged at Eaton Park and Frank Spauls took the win in the Under 10’s A Final with Zackery 2nd, Stanley 4th and Kenny winning the B Final. Connor made it 4 wins out of 4 in the Under 13’s event winning the A Final with Will 2nd and Tabby 4th. Shaun rode in the Under 16’s event and emerged victorious whilst the Senior event saw Norwich riders finishing 1st and 3rd in the A & B Finals, Paddy winning the A Final with Jamie 3rd whilst Tom & Rory took the same positions in the B Final

Saturday 28th will see Connor represent Norwich in the Little League Under 10’s Individual Championship at Southampton whilst the British Under 14 Boys and British Under 12 Boys Individual Championships will also be decided at the same venue. Shaun represents Norwich in the Under 14 event whilst Will carries the Norwich colours in the Under 12’s. The following day Tom represents Norwich in the British Junior Individual Championship at East Newport whilst at Newport Paddy Wenn competes in the British Over 50’s Individual Championship looking to add that title to the World Over 50’s Championship which he won in 2019
