MATCH REPORT: Battle of Britain and Elite GP Round 2

Newport CSC held round 2 of the Battle of Britain and Elite GP series for men at their well appointed Newport International sports village track.
The untimely withdrawals of the North/ Scotland and Midlands teams left the host club having to shuffle the match format around and stage a 2 team event , lianing riders to the Eastern team who were short.
The racing was very competitive with both teams enjoying the fast and open spaces of the Welsh circuit, the hime team just about had the edge and ran out victors by 82 to 78 after a last heat decider.World champion Ben Mould top scored for the South and South Wales team with 23 points, beaten by the impressive Ben Clarke in heat 13.

Ashley Hill 17+2, James Porter 11+1, Lee Galley(guest) 7, Ben Clarke 18+1, Chris Timms (guest) 13+4, Callum Goward (guest) 12.

The Elite GP followed, although much depleted. Chris Timms won all his heats to storm through to the a final with Mould,Clarke, and Hill.
The impressive Chris Timms ran out comfortable winner of the 25pts and prize money with local favourite Ben Mould runner up, Ben Clarke 3rd and Ashley Hill 4th. James Porter secured 5th place by winning the B final.
Although lacking regional teams riders, the Newport club adapted things very well and put on a good days racing, with club sponsor Paul Dovey presenting the awards on the day.
