CLUB NEWS: Hawks in plenty of action for all ages

HETHERSETT HAWKS / YELLOW BRICK MORTGAGES may not have any team fixtures during August but there has been plenty of action for all ages. Glyn Morgan looked set to consolidate his place as leader of the Eurovets Over-60s series in Round 5 at the nearby Eaton Park circuit but his closest rival, Ray Pyke (Kesgrave) passed him on the final corner of the “A” Final, a pass that also let in Paul Timms (Birmingham). Glyn still leads the series with rounds at East Newport and Birmingham to come. He also finished second in the Over-50s “B” Final which sees him now 4th in the series. He will now turn his attention to the British Over-60s Individual Final at Leicester over the Bank Holiday weekend.

At the younger end of the scale 12 young Hawks contested the fifth round of the Norfolk Grand Prix Series for Under-8s, Under-10s and Under-13s held at Hethersett. There were wins for Nyla El-Labany (Under-8s) and Luca El-Labany in the Under-10s while Aiesha Musa looked in a good position to win the Under-13s until a terrific pass round the outside by Will Blackmore (Norwich) stole the show. Special mentions to Yeva Makieieva, the Hawks’ recent Ukrainian recruit, who had her first competitive match and Sarah Brailey, who refereed her first match since qualifying.
