Words by Mel Perkins MBE

HETHERSETT HAWKS / YELLOW BRICK MORTGAGES have a busy weekend ahead as they kick off their 58th season at the Memorial Playing Field. Pre-season has not ben easy with the wet March weather delaying track preparation and cancelling four of seven planned training sessions. Still, over 30 of last season’s regulars plus two new signings have turned a wheel and over 20 of them are already committed to race in the first even on Saturday – Round 1 of the South-East Grand Prix which in many categories doubles as a Regional Round of the British Youth & Junior League.

Riders from all over the South-East will travel to Hethersett with the Under-8s and Under-10s getting proceedings under way at 12 noon with other age groups following on ending with Seniors and Veterans.

The Hawks follow this on Sunday with a trip to Greet Blakenham in Suffolk for Division 2 and Youth League fixtures starting at 2 p.m.

One date to note in diaries is Saturday July 29th when Hethersett stage a National Round of the British Youth & Junior League featuring all the top youngsters from around the country.
