WEEKEND PREVIEW: BYJL and Regional League racing

The British Youth & Junior League gets underway on Saturday with 2 regional rounds. In the North & Scotland region Hull is the venue for whilst Hethersett stages the South-East round which also counts as Round 1 of the South-East Grand Prix. The action at Hethersett gets underway at 12 noon whilst Hull start at 1pm.

There should have been 2 further regional rounds, in the Midlands at Wednesfield and in the South & South Wales region at Southampton but both of these events have been postponed, Southampton due to their track being waterlogged and not fit for racing, plus the car parking area will not be able to accommodate vehicles. The Wednesfield round was postponed as Ross Mee was predicting low numbers and clubs had mentioned that no training had taken place so a decision was made to cancel. Southampton’s round has been provisionally re-scheduled for Saturday May 6th whilst the Wednesfield event will be staged at a later date

Moving on to Sunday and there are matches in the South-East Regional League and the North & Scotland Regional League. In the South-East League there are 2 matches in Division 2 and these will see Great Blakenham welcome Hethersett to the South-East Regional Centre (where there will also be a Youth League match between the 2 teams) whilst Norwich are the visitors to Whitton Sports Centre where they face Ipswich. The action at Ipswich starts at 1pm with Great Blakenham starting at 2pm

In the North & Scotland region Astley & Tyldesley begin the defence of their Division 1 & Division 3 titles they won in 2022 against Hull at Gin Pit. There will also be a Division 2 match between the 2 teams. The action begins at 1pm with the Division 3 match with the Division 1 match at 2pm and the Division 2 match at 3.45pm. Meanwhile Bury welcome the Sheffield Stars to Goshen Sports Centre in all 3 divisions and the action will include the Stars beginning the defence of the Division 2 title they won in a play-off against Fife at the end of 2022.

Also on Sunday it is a battlMonarchs in the National League as Leicester host Birmingham at Glover Park where the action begins at 2pm
