CLUB NEWS: A busy weekend for the Stars to kick off 2023

Hethersett was the venue for the opening BYJL & South-East Grand Prix Round on Saturday April 1st on an overcast, cold and damp, drizzly day but despite the weather the track stood up well.. Norwich had 6 riders involved and their results were as follows:

Under 12: Zackery Eastwood runner up in the B Final
Under 14: Will Blackmore runner-up in A Final
Senior: Tom Blackmore won the B Final, Jack Western was 3rd in the B Final
Over 40’s: Paddy Wenn won the A Final, Steve Copping was runner-up in the B Final

The weather was much brighter the following day as Norwich travelled to Ipswich for their 1st South-East Division 2 match of the season where 7 of the 1st 8 heats were shared with a 6-4 to Ipswich giving them a 2 point lead at the halfway stage. The 2nd half opened with a maximum 7-3 to Ipswich before Lee Grange and Harrie Everiss combined for a 6-4 in Heat 10 to cut the gap to 4 points. The home side then doubled their advantage with another maximum in heat 11 before the 2 teams traded 6-4’s in heats 12 and 13. A shared heat 14 meant that Norwich needed 2 maximum scores to salvage a draw. Gary Colby and Paddy got the first one in heat 15 but Lee and Harrie could only share the last race which meant that Ipswich won by 82 points to 78. Lee top scored with 21 points, Paddy scored 15+2, Gary 14+2, Harrie 11, Jamie Medler 9+3, David Adams 7+1, Jack 1

Paddy and Steve will be heading to Birmingham this coming Saturday (8th) for the opening Eurovets round. The next round of the BYJL & South-East Grand Prix takes place at Great Blakenham on the following Saturday. Paddy will then be in action at Wednesfield on the 22nd for the Dash Trophies Veterans Midland Grand Prix before he and Steve head to East London for the 2nd round of the Eurovets on the 29th. Norwich’s next league match is on Sunday May 7th when they host Great Blakenham
