CLUB NEWS: Norwich Stars Down Under

Paddy Wenn and Steve Copping are representing the Norwich Stars whilst in Australia for the World Championships. Paddy was the first in action on Saturday 18th November at Findon where re rode for Great Britain in the Over 40’s Federation Cup. Paddy was reserve for this match and scored 1 point from 1 ride as GB finished 3rd with 32 points, Australia having won with 46 points with Poland 2nd on 39.

The following day it was the 1st Over 40’s test match between Australia and Great Britain at Murray Bridge. Paddy was in the GB team and scored 6 points as GB were soundly beaten by 108 points to 70.

Tuesday saw the 2nd Over 40’s test match take place at Salisbury which Australia won by 102 points to 77. Paddy scored 9 of GB’s points. This match was followed by a Junior Test match between Australia and Poland which finished as a 90-90 draw, Steve having been on the whistle for this one

Paddy begins the defence of his Grand Veterans World Championship tomorrow with a pre-qualifier at Le Fevre where he is among the expected 21 riders competing for the 16 places in the final. This starts at 8.30am UK time (7pm local time). At 10am UK time (8.30pm local time) Steve will be on the whistle for a Senior Test match between Australia and Poland

Steve will finally take to the track on Thursday in a qualifier for the Over 40’s World Championship. Paddy will also be in action in the same competition. Steve races at Salisbury at 10am UK time (8.30pm local time) and Paddy is at Findon starting at 8.30am UK time (7pm local time). Both will be looking for a top 10 finish to advance to the semi-finals. Failing that they need to be the next 2 top scorers outside of the top 10. The Semi-Finals are at Findon on Monday 27th.

Friday will see Steve in action in the Senior World Championship Quarter finals at either Salisbury or Findon at either 8.30am UK time (7pm local time) or 10am UK time (8.30pm local time) but which match he will be in hasn’t been confirmed as yet

Saturday will see Paddy and Steve don their Ireland shirts at Le Fevre for the World Cups for Over 40’s and Senior. The Over 40’s get underway at 3.30am UK time (2pm local time) and the Senior match starts at 7.30am UK time (6pm local time)
