CLUB NEWS: Mixed fortunes for Hawks at Ipswich

Hethersett Hawks/Myhill Decorators took an under-strength team to face champions Ipswich and in the circumstances put up a reasonable opposition.

There were heat wins for Leigh Cossey. Owen Wells and Liam Webster but Hethersett only won one race – a 6-4 by Cossey and Charlie Lyth in heat 5.

The Division 2 match was a much closer affair with Ipswich shading the first half before a 6-3 win for Hethersett in heat 10 gave them the lead. The lead was short-lived and Ipswich were four points up with two races left.

Owen Wells and Glyn Morgan reduced this with a 6-4 in heat 15 and Wells was out again in the final race with previously unbeaten Liam Webster. Fraser Harris suffered an untimely exclusion for forcing Wells off the track and the victory went to Hetherrsett by the narrowest of margins.
