MATCH REPORT: Hull record 3 wins over an under strength A&T

Hull played hosts to an understrength Astley & Tyldesley side on a sunny day in the North & Scotland League. In Division One Hull started well with a Nathan Everett / Jacob Francis 6-4 and increased their lead with a Jacob Francis / Matt Eglen maximum in heat 4, before Steve Harris / Reece Pollitt narrowed the lead with a 7-3 for Astley in the following heat. Hull then put together a run of three 6-4’s to extend their lead to 8 points before a Jack Lister slip led to an exclusion and a Steve Harris / Mike Hack 6-3 in heat 11. Hull then guarded their five point lead with only a heat 14 Jack Lister / Matt Eglen 6-4 for the home side and a similar score for the visitors Steve Harris / Duncan Whalley interrupting a run of drawn heats to see a final score of Hull 92 Astley & Tyldesley 87.

Hull’s Nathan Everett, Lewis Foxley and Jack Lister were well backed by the rest of the side while Reece Pollitt was only beaten once, by Nathan in a last gasp pass on the line, and Steve Harris also rode well.

In Division 2 Mike Hack and Chas Whalley joined a young Astley side but Hull soon established a good lead with three 7-3’s and a 6-4 in the opening five heats. Both sides produced some good races with Matt Eglen unbeaten for the home side and Duncan Whalley dropping just one point for the visitors. Astley scored their only heat wins in heats 9 and 15 but couldn’t match the strength in depth of the Hull side for whom Jacob Francis and John Gowans impressed in a 86-63 win with the visitors David Hamilton also catching the eye.

In Division 3 Hull fielded an impressive 14 riders against Astley & Tyldesley’s two competitors to record a 152 points to 27 victory. In the under 13’s Hull’s Noah Lyon was unbeaten with Kacey Bennett scoring 14 while Astley’s Josh Pilkington also recorded a maximum score in the under 10’s with Hull’s Harry Gibson just dropping one point.
