MATCH REPORT: Wednesfield Club Championship

Wednesfield Aces staged their junior club championship on Tuesday night, thirty two riders joined in from under 8s up to Under 17s.

It was the under 8s who started the night with 12 riders competing, Corey Burt showed his  pace out of the gates by winning his first two races and taking an early lead on the score board. Finley Burden and the much improved Peter Middleton also claimed first place in their opening races but it was Grace Glover who showed the crowd of over 150 people that she is the rising star of girls racing with an inside to outside pass on lap two of her second race that would have had any senior rider being applauded.

Ever present BYJL campaigner Boyd Haines was again back to winning ways with a win in heat seven and heat ten to put the pressure back onto Corey Burt. Names to look out for in 2016 are Robin Vaughan, Ronnie Cox, Joban Soori and Heidi Williams who have joined the club having watched the world Women’s final at Wednesfield. In the end it was Corey Burt who came through with a maximum 16 points, second was Boyd Haines and third place went to Peter Middleton. The club are over the moon with the increase of fewer than 8 riders since the world finals and shows it really has captured the attention of young riders from the Wednesfield area.

There were 12 riders in the under 10s and under 12s club Championship

In the under 10s it was a strong field including ever present BYJL  riders Todd Rowley and Megan Burt who was hoping to follow Corey on to the winner’s podium. Diego Corcoran who has been a regular Tuesday club rider this season showed he has progressed well with a first and two seconds in his first three races but it was it was the speedy and tenacious Todd Rowley who showed why he has been a crowd favourite at the Aces this year with some great first bend bravery to boss the races from early on and in the end came through with a one point victory over Megan Burt to claim top spot with Megan second and Diego third. A few names to mention who have progressed will in their first season are the Manchester Brothers Harry and Noah who have done well since they joined the club after the world finals.

The under 12s was surely a foregone conclusion for Tyler Bould to take the winners spot but the rest of the under 12s had other ideas. Georgia Burt again showed why she is seen as one to watch next year with some flashes of brilliance in pushing Tyler all the way. Macy Burden who has returned to cycle speedway after an injury kept her side lined for most of the season was battling all the way to take points off Georgia and Tyler.  New comer to Wednesfield is Daniel Vallance who is another of the new group of riders who have joined the club since watching the world final showed his turn of pace to match his enthusiasm with some very encouraging signs to take into 2016 racing but with all riders having to take on Tyler Bould it was Tyler who came out on top with a maximum 16 points. Georgia Burt finished second and Macy Burden finishing in third place.

The world finals have really kick started the Wednesfield aces junior section with no fewer than fifteen new riders joining the club since August , the average number of riders for each Tuesday club has been twenty four under 8 to 14s each week , it really is a boom time for Junior cycle speedway racing.

Finally after all the waiting it was the turn of the much anticipated under 14s and under 17s club championship.

The under 14s was a straight forward battle between Kyle Ryan and  Korben Thompson  who raced alongside the under 17s , the draw didn’t favour Korben in the early races having to race two British lions , It was Kyle who came out on top with a two point victory over Korben.

With two Great Britain Junior team members in Haydn Rowley and Brandon Whetton and also with the much improved Welsh Junior rider of the season Carl Parfitt there was much discussion about how this was going to turn out. Add the improving  BYJLs  Adam Tipton who this week received a formal  invitation from the Mayor of Wolverhampton  to attend a civic reception for young sports volunteers  ,also not forgetting the popular Tuesday club rider Tom  Dipple and no club champion ship would be complete without an Aris  family member  being involved , this time is was the turn of Alex Aris .

The crowd were not disappointed with the opening races going to Brandon , Carl and Alex Aris , It was clear that Haydn Rowley hadn’t shaken off the virus that has kept him out of first team racing for the past two weeks with only one victory on the night. Adam Tipton taking two second places had certainly upset the form books with riders knowing victory in their last races would keep them in the hunt. It was heat seven that saw Brandon and Carl meet to decide who would be crowned club champion or at least taking it to a run off if things went Carls way,   and that’s just what happened with Carl and Brandon battling to the last lap but it was Brandon who finished on the shale with another injury to the hand he has damaged throughout the season , this meant Carl and Brandon had a run off to be crowned Club Champion, after a ferociously fast race it was Brandon off gate two who beat Carl to take the club Championship to round off a fantastic season for him. Haydn Rowley finished Third place after a run off with Alex Aris, Adam Tipton  finished fifth and Tom Dipple sixth .

The club hold their prize presentation evening on Saturday 14th November at Gilberts bar in Willenhal where all the winners and riders taking part will receive their awards.

It’s been a fantastic season at Wednesfield both on and off the track but this couldn’t be done without the parents and family members of the young riders who have supported the club and its committee throughout the year; the club would like to thank everyone who has helped play a part.
