NEWS: Brandon ready for the off

One of Cycle Speedway’s newest clubs have confirmed their opening night fixture. Brandon Bees will race Leicester in a Midland League junior challenge on Tuesday 5th April 2016, at 7.15pm.

Work has been on-going most of the winter at the Brandon Rd, Bretford Playing Fields track. Weeds have been attended to, the pits area cleared of overgrown weeds and grass and the track and surrounds brought into top condition.

Additionally, the safety fence has been given attention, posts have been painted and the small container cleaned out.

All the work has been carried out by ex-1960s top rider Rob Hardie, of the former Whoberley Witches, and his partner Brenda. Now 67 years old, and retired from work, he was invited to take on the Brandon `track managers` role after being encouraged by Joe McLaughlin.

The project was given a boost last week, following a continuous search for volunteers, with Rugby based Trevor Lowe emailing the Coventry club to offer support. Trevor is also retired from work and met-up with Rob for the first time yesterday.

The track has recently been used for practice by Lee Kemp, whose parents Graham and Bernie outstandingly created the facility, and members of Coventry, who had a full scale practice session on the track two weeks ago.
