OBITUARY: More tributes for Rod Witham

More tributes are coming in for former Cycle Speedway Commission Chair Rod Witham, who died last week

” Very sad to hear of the death of Rod Witham. Rod was a very hard working person in Cycle Speedway both on the organisation front and of course the portrayal of the sport via the Spokesman Magazine be it the printed copy or the eventual online version which revolutionised media coverage globally. A true great servant of the sport alongside the likes of Harry Glover and Dave Blinston and the recently departed Mick Harley. My thoughts to his family.”

“I was absoulutely shocked to hear the news of Rod Witham’s death. Whenever our paths had crossed at various cycle speedway events, either locally, nationally or if the World or European Championships have been in the UK we have always found the time to chat. I never actually saw him ride but from what I understand he certainly was no slouch on a bike and his administrative skills were second to none, especially with the publication of “50 years of Cycle Speedway” as well as the Spokesman magazine and all the work he done when Spokesman went online in 2007 until he closed it in 2014. If it wasn’t for a letter he wrote to the late Mick Harley in 1978 to set up a potential tour to Australia (the first such trip happened in 1981) I very much doubt that there would be any of the International racing that we have today
“My sincerest condolences to his wife Karen and his family and friends and I am sure I speak for everyone not only in Cycle Speedway as a whole but everyone at Norwich Stars Cycle Speedway Club also”
