NEWS: British Finals Weekend postponed
This weekend should have seen the British Finals Weekend take place in the South & South Wales region but the Covid-19 pandemic has forced those, along with most other major Cycle Speedway events, to be postponed and re-scheduled for 2021 with the clubs who were allocated the relevant events for 2020 having first refusal as to whether they stage them next year. The British Finals Weekend will be in the South & South Wales Region next year with Horspath expected to be staging the British Final on Monday August 30th.
This will be only the 2nd time that the British Final will not have taken place as it was also abandoned in 1953 after the County Finals stage following the withdrawal of sponsorship by News Chronicle (who were sponsoring the British Team KO Cup at the time) & Mars, who without the support of News Chronicle and the national outlet it provided withdrew their sponsorhip of the British Final.
Another notable casualty of the Covid-19 pandemic was this year’s World Championships which were due to be staged between November 17th and December 6th in Australia. These too have been re-scheduled for next year from November 16th to December 5th
